Patients are asked to request home visits before 10.30am for visits that day. Late calls are for emergencies only, or to arrange a visit for another day. Most home visits are conducted by the AVS (Accute Visiting Service) which is commissioned by the GPs.
In line with current medical practice we have a policy of visiting patients whose medical condition would be worsened by transport to the surgery. Visits cannot be undertaken because of transport, financial difficulty, weather conditions or childcare concerns.
The medical centre is better equipped for medical examinations and your GP can attend four or five patients in the time taken for one home visit.
Home visits are generally carried out by a service that is commissioned to do this by the North Halifax Primary Care Network and may not be a member of the Beechwood Medical Centre team. However, they will have full access to your medical records and if need be will be discussed with your GP.
