Clinics

Clinical Roles

Community Midwife

Midwifery has moved to Broad Street Plaza.

Patients wanting to arrange their first appointment need to call 01422 261351 and 01422 261331 for subsequent appointments.

Those wanting to speak to a member of the team for anything else should call: 01422 261364 or 261360

Health Visitors

Their role is a community one. Contact them for information on 01422 367891.

District Nurses

Their role is seeing housebound and elderly patients in the community. Tel: 01422 652291.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Advanced Practitioners (ANP and AP)

Our ANP and AP are qualified to diagnose illness and prescribe medication and do most things that a GP will do.

Practice Nurses

They see patients at the surgery for diabetes, asthma, COPD and child health development, dressings and holiday and flu injections.

Health Care Assistant

For blood pressure checks, NHS health checks, weight checks, blood tests, long term condition reviews and spirometry tests etc.

Clinics

Asthma Clinics/COPD Clinic/CHD Clinic/Diabetic Clinic

By appointment only, these clinics are run by Practice Nurses/HCA and Pharmacist

Annual reviews have now been streamlined and patients will usually only be called in once a year for a full, long term condition, review. This review will be longer than your normal appointments and will involve you consulting with a number of clinicians so we can try and cover everything in the one visit. This will involve a phlebotomist, healthcare assistant, nurse, and pharmacist and on some occasions a GP. You will be invited for this around the month of your birthday and the initial invite will be done in a detailed and hard copy letter. Following this we will try and move these invites to either texts or e-mails.

Phlebotomy (Blood Taking)

Can be done by the Health Care Assistant (by appointment only).

Phlebotomy (Blood Taking)

Every Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm (by appointment only)

Alternate Mondays 8.00am to 5.00pm (by appointment only)

Every Thursday 9.30am to 3.30pm (by appointment only)

Family Planning

Contraceptive care is provided by all the doctors during surgery hours. Dr King also specialises in IUCDs (coils). Contraceptive sub-dermal implant insertions and removals are available from Dr King. Please ask for an appointment to access any of these services.

Smoking Cessation

Calderdale Stop Smoking Service runs smoking cessation clinics, please call 0330 660 1166.

Advice and information on quitting smoking.

Minor Surgery

The Medical Centre can perform minor surgery on-site and is currently done by Dr Aarthi Karthik. The following list is indicative of what is available;-

Examination, biopsy and removal of suspicious moles, removal of unsightly skin lumps, cysts and skin tags

Joint Injections

Injection of painful joints such as Elbows, Knees, Shoulders etc can be done by Dr Shoaib Iqbal.

To receive any such procedure the patients must first visit the surgery for an assessment, this may be achieved by making an appointment with any Beechwood healthcare professional. This assessment will determine if the minor surgery or joint injections are required.

Travel Immunisations/Vaccinations

Please make an appointment with our Practice Travel Nurse at least four to six weeks in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover. You will initially have a telephone consultation with this nurse to discuss your requirements and discuss any fees that may be applicable. If you choose to go ahead then a further face to face appointment will be booked.

Flu Vaccinations

An influenza vaccination is recommended for patients with diabetes, CHD, asthma, CKD, residents of nursing and residential homes and all patients over 65 years of age as well as pregnant ladies and certain age groups of children. If you are eligible we will contact you with a date. If you are unable to attend the surgery due to being housebound, a home visit may be arranged.

Pregnancy

Contraception advice is provided by all our doctors. However, the Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Chai Loh, has specific family planning training. Contraceptive sub-dermal implant insertions and removals are available from Chai

Antenatal and Postnatal Information
